Gazing Ahead
by Karen Sue Burns on December 31st, 2015

The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” — Michelangelo
I’m no longer a fan of setting New Year resolutions because I never follow through with them. I know I’m not alone with that particular issue. However, I do like the idea of starting fresh and gazing ahead with my life, perhaps with guidelines rather than resolutions.
I ran across this prayer of Saint Francis in an old Dear Abby column. It fits perfectly for the start of a new year with a powerful message.
“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
“Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
“Where there is injury, pardon;
“Where there is doubt, faith;
“Where there is despair, hope;
“Where there is darkness, light;
“Where there is sadness, joy.
“O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
“To be understood as to understand;
“To be loved as to love;
“For it is in giving that we receive;
“It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
“It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

May we all experience peace and joy, along with good health, in 2016.
Happy New Year, y’all!!
